Halloween sneak peak

Last year I was inspired by the Box Hero Corps. I love costumes that get people’s attention but at the same time are obviously homemade. I was a little behind on my Halloween costume (something I say every year) and thought I would try my hand at one. I loved the idea of creating a basic template and letting the artwork fill in all of the detail. I also foolishly thought it would be quick. It took me a little time to figure out the pattern to get things to fold up just right. Plus I wanted my solid yellow arc reactor to glow. By “took me a little time”, I mean probably 40 hours.

This year, after having big plan after big plan involving all three of us (Aliens chest burster, krang and his robot body from TMNT, He-man, battlecat and Orko, Voltron and Princess Alura - she can have girly costumes when she’s old enough to ask for them, honest!), the reality of my schedule was that I would not have that kind of time this year. So I changed my focus to what could I make for Grace for her first Halloween that was simple, would work for photos of the three of us and wouldn’t require new costumes for Kristi or I.

Box Hero Iron Baby for the win. (Sometimes I wonder why I didn’t just have her be Yoda and call it a day :P)

You can see some other costumes like Bender, Beaker, Lego Captain Kirk + Green Alien Babe and $10 Soundwave here.

As you can see in the last pic, I keep all of my old costumes in the basement. Grace might end up scared to go down there. To be honest, Lego Captain Kirk scared the crap out of me the first night he was there.
